Therapeutic Bodywork
We have carved out this special category for our services that embrace their roots in Eastern medical systems and bodywork traditions that aim to stimulate the body's innate energetic system as part of the therapeutic work.
Although the goal of all our services at Sage Bodywork is helping you achieve your unique wellness goals through therapeutic touch, when you choose Bodywork rather than Massage, you will delight in the distinct differences. Our bodywork services are performed with holistic goals in mind and use techniques that focus on unblocking and improving the flow of chi through your energetic framework. When functioning properly, this system connects to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects as healthy humans.
Sage Bodywork offers services that pull from TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Acupressure, Shiatsu, 5-Element Theory, Reflexology, Thai Yoga, and High Touch Jin Shin. None of these services require lotion or oils and all can be effectively performed through clothing. Workout style clothing or something that allows for full range of movement of your arms and legs is best; proper draping is always ensured for our clients that choose to disrobe for their services. Whether on a massage worktable or on a traditional Thai Mat, cushions, supports, and pillows will be used to ensure comfort during your service. Your therapist will coordinate with you in choosing the best options for your session.
What is Jin Shin?
Loosely translated to "the art of knowing and helping oneself", High Touch Jin Shin is an energetic folk practice that harmonizes the body through gentle touch. Sharing similar principles of acupressure, it is done by placing the fingertips on specific points throughout the body to aid the flow of energy and release any tensions or blockages. Sessions are done fully clothed, lying face up on a massage table or Thai Mat. It does not involve massage or physical manipulation of tissue. You may feel a variety of sensations, physically and emotionally, during and after the session. Jin Shin will often leave you feeling relaxed and at ease. It is helpful for a variety of conditions, including acute and chronic pain, increasing immune function, eliminating fatigue, reducing stress, and improving digestion. It's beneficial to all, there is no one Jin Shin cannot be practiced on.
Participants in our in-house research project mirrored the results listed above, including improved heart rate, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels, as well as overall relaxation and reduced stress. To view the detailed results from our research project, click here.
